  • We won the pitch with this short test animation, compositing Batman onto our office desk. I aimed to match the film’s aesthetic by animating on 2s, giving it a stop-motion feel.

For the final films, we shifted direction and chose to stay true to the physical limitations of the actual LEGO toys. That meant smoother, more grounded animation — avoiding the exaggerated bends and unrealistic limb rotations seen in the movie. The focus was on realism and maintaining the tactile quality of the real figures.

Lego Batman Mini Movies

To coincide with the 2017 release of The LEGO Batman Movie, we pitched for the advertising campaign supporting the associated LEGO toy range — and won. With a small but capable team of three, we delivered five live-action/CG hybrid mini-movies, alongside a suite of product renders for LEGO.

LEGO provided CAD models for the full product range, which we adapted, rigged, animated, and integrated into live-action plates. Character rigging and animation were handled in Maya, while our final renders were produced in Cinema 4D, requiring a full pipeline conversion to leverage our in-house rendering strengths.

My contributions included character animation, compositing, and motion design (Maya, Cinema 4D, After Effects). I also served as CG advisor on set, responsible for capturing HDRI data to ensure accurate lighting and integration across scenes.
